April 4th, 1834 marked the first sale of land in Albany. The initial minimum price per acre was five shillings, but by 1838 it was raised to twelve shillnigs, and then again in 1842 raised to one pound an acre.

The electricity supply from a generating plant was installed in Albany in 1910, by Herbert Robinson of Drew Robinson & Co, who was mayor of Albany from 1912-1915.
