Albany Historical Society would like to send our condolences to the family and friends of AHS volunteer Heather.

This morning the Society received the saddest of news, one of our Albany Convict Gaol Volunteers has passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly.

Our deepest and sincerest sympathy to Heather‘s family, on what must be the most difficult time for them. We we will miss Heather greatly, Rest In Peace dear Heather. Our most grateful thanks for your commitment to the Gaol and Albany.

Did You Know?

On the 29th of September 1791, explorer Captain George Vancouver, whilst exploring the south coast on HMS Discovery, entered and named King George the Third’s Sound and Princess Royal Harbour along with islands and coastal areas of the Albany region. He took possession of New Holland for the British Crown.
