AWARD-WINNING GUITAR DUO, THE GRIGORYAN BROTHERS, PERFORM A SHOW OF WHAT IT MEANS TO BE AUSTRALIAN, INSPIRED BY OBJECTS FROM THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIA.
Guitarists Slava and Leonard Grigoryan are counted among the finest musicians of their generation. They embrace a range of genres, drawing on classical, jazz and contemporary music from around the world. Between them, the brothers have received four ARIA awards and an incredible 25 ARIA award nominations!
Commissioned by the National Museum in Canberra to celebrate its 20th anniversary, ‘This Is Us’ began with Slava and Leonard Grigoryan selecting 18 objects from the museum to inspire 18 evocative musical compositions.
‘This Is Us’ takes audiences on a journey from the deep past of early Indigenous Australians to the making of contemporary Australian society. The compositions are accompanied by high definition moving projections, with artifacts varying from a Kimberley spear point to Sir Donald Bradman’s famed cricket
bat.
Incorporating all their influences from classical to jazz and contemporary music, performed on a variety of guitars (electric, 8 string tenor ukulele, 12 string and classical), audiences will see and hear the Grigoryan Brothers like never before!
